Copyright, is copy right?

How many of you have infringed copyright? In my second IS lesson, I learned about the consequences of infringing copyright and why it's illegal.
People infringe copyright because it is cheaper than buying original products. But what they're doing is ruining the company's future. Companies manufacture products to earn money. If people infringe their copyright, the company would not earn any money, and may have to cease operations, and the public would not be able to enjoy any future products that the company may manufacture, so both parties stand to lose out if we continue to illegally download product
Now, what is considered the infringement of copyright? For songs, movies, games, and so on, only 10% of the product may be copied, and it is only for personal use. For books, only 10% or one chapter of the book may be copied, and it too, must be for personal use. If we have to copy a product off the internet, we have to either ask for permission from the owners or credit the source; otherwise it would be an infringement of copyright, and we risk getting sued. So, if you don’t want to be sued, we should buy original products, and don’t do to others what you don’t want others to do to you.

IS lesson 1-the internet and WWW

All of us have heard of the internet, but how many of you know its history and uses besides for playing computer games? In my first IS lesson, i have learned the history of the internet and its uses, as well as some trivia.

The internet was a networking project created by the Pentagon's Advanced Research Projects Agency to allow scientists at different locations to share information, as well as to function if part of the network were disabled. The Internet became functional in 1969 with only four host nodes(connection points). The internet has grown to over 1,000 host nodes in 1984 and over 2,000,000 host nodes today.

Now, the World Wide Web, also known as the web. What is the Web? It is a worldwide collection of electronic documents, or Web pages, which contains text, graphics, sounds, videos, and built-in connections. A collection of Web pages is called a Web site. So how do you view Web pages? You have to use a Web browser, like Microsoft Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Safari, Netscape, Opera, and Google Chrome. What is a search engine? A search engine is a programme used to find Web sites and Web pages by entering words and phrases called search text, or keywords. Popular search engines include Yahoo, Hotbot, MSN search, and Google. When you type in a keyword in a search engine, you get a lot of Web pages that have something to do with the keyword. each Web page is called a hit. Finally, when using the Web, there are several acceptable behaviors that you should follow when using the internet. These behaviors are called netiquette. basically, the golden rule is : treat others like how you want them to treat you.
